not sure I am happy with this .. nah, not really. Took way too long for how it turned out.

It was a warm, pleasant afternoon at DNS. The staff has been training hard outside for the past few weeks, wanting to make the best out of their big outdoor arena, before the winter weather and short days made it impossible to ride outside.

"Well fuck ..." Switch just tripped again over a ground pole. For the fifth time. Evy was getting annoyed.

"Maybe he didn`t see it?" Jesse was hardly keeping his poker-face on, that`s how funny they were to look at.

"Of course he damned saw it! He looked at it like it`s going to jump up at him and eat him! And he lifted his legs sky high to get over it .. and ended up tripping over his own legs while tying to half-jump over the fucking thing ... again. Damn clumsy idiot." She ended up facepalming herself while Switch slowed down to a halt, looking at Evy with the saddest, most deeply disappointed expression. Even Evy couldn`t stay annoyed looking at those bright blue eyes. "Dawww buddy don`t look at me like that, you know I love you but this is ... I don`t know what to do with you .." she petted him and in an instant, he looked happier.

"So ... what are you going to do?" Jesse asked ... now this was too much for his pathetic acting ability - he broke out laughing like an idiot.

"I have no idea. He always tries so hard, he wants to make you happy but .. gawd I just don`t know." It was a problem indeed. His dressage went smoothly, he would collect with the smallest hint, he followed Evy around like a puppy and he had an incredibly positive attitude towards everything. His only problem was .. clumsiness.

"Maybe he just doesn`t get the whole concept of ground poles?"

"You could be right ... OMG .. I know EXACTLY what to do! Raise the pole. Make a small oxer out of it!"

"You sure that`s a good idea? I mean ... I don`t want to see both of you getting killed."

"We`re going to be okay. If he finds the ground poles too high to simply step over it, and too small to fully jump over it, which results in him tangling up into his own legs .. well then maybe he needs to meet something higher?"

"Whatever you say ..." he moved towards the nearest already set-up fence, lowered it a huge bit, and set up a rail one stride away from the tiny oxer.

"No, remove the ground pole. I can get the distance fine with him, he can adjust his stride a little already .. tripping over that thing and flying into the jump would not end well."

"Oh damn, you`re right ..." he quickly lifted up the rail and moved it away from the jump.

Evy pushed Switch into gallop, made a large circle then turned towards the fence, picking a nice, straight line. Switch looked at the fence with his ears pricked forward, his eyes large and fixed on the fence. Evy brought him right on the stride and he took off like a rocket, sending them both flying sky-high over the tiny oxer. Evy was ready for something like this, and was nowhere near to loosing her balance .. but this was more than she expected. As they landed, she had a huge smile on her face.

"WHOOOOAAAA" Jesse stood dead on the spot.

"Not bad for our clumsy idiot, eh?"

"Nope .. not .. bad .. at all."

"You little overachiever!" said Evy with a sweet voice, leaned down and petted Switch over his muzzle. He looked a little shocked but happy as hell to see he made his favorite rider happy. "I think we can skip the ground pole chapter of learning with this little guy."
